History article written for the GFHS website,The Sno-lsle Libraries organization is striving to make more material available to its patrons, in the form of digital images portraying the history of Snohomish and Island Counties. With the sponsorship and leadership of the Granite Falls Library and librarian Jude Anderson, Granite Falls was one of the communities selected to participate in the "Digitize Our Community History" program in 2014. We are taking this opportunity to share some of the pictures with Mountain Loop eXpress readers. The Sno-lsle intern is working as quickly as she can to bring them all online. The first real downtown school building was built in 1893, on the southeast corner of S. Granite Ave. and Pioneer St. That property was to sen/e as the primary school property for decades. Within ten years, it needed to be expanded, so its size was doubled with an addition on the south side of the original school building.
