Hi Sally, We do not oppose the addition of 271 Spruce Street to the City's Historic Resources Inventory, although we are not sure why it is being requested. As of 1926, there was no structure on the lot according to the Sanborn map. The tax assessor records indicate the vacant lot was owned by Henrietta Post of Sutter Creek, California. If your records indicate the year of construction for the house, and it is at least 50 years old, and you are satisfied with the originality of its architectural features, we would support its inclusion on the list. Generally speaking, we encourage and support owners requesting inclusion on the list for structures built after 1926. This assumes the structure is at least 50 years old, from the request date. It also assumes there is some architectural significance and/or originality representative of the time it was originally constructed. Lacking any architectural significance, historical significance would be important.
