I know we are in the midst of the holiday season, but now is the time to ask your family to bring a story, heir- loom or picture to share. If someone needs help, suggest a previous holiday, pos- sibly from his or her childhood, or a vaca- tion they enjoyed as a child. Maybe some would enjoy remem- bering fondly those who are no longer with you. While thinking of this gift-giving season, are you giving gifts that are family related? Scrap- books with a few things to get them started. Is there a family recipe that lends itself to the dry ingre- dients being put in a jar? If so put the dry ingredi- ents in layers in a Mason jar. The label can be a “book” with a pic- ture of the food, and inside why or who makes this a “family food” and the recipe with instructions. During the last year I found some very inter- esting information on an ancestor. I have been able to keep it quiet, and plan on giv- ing a report as a gift to my siblings this year along with scrapbooks. Each couple will re- ceive two scrapbooks and I leave it to the couple on how they fill them. They may decide one is hers and one is his, or both are theirs. I just hope to start the families saving those important memories. At The Library: 929.3 Filby P, A Bibliography of American County Histories, compiled by P.
