One week turn around time! The primary election took place on Tuesday, Aug. 4 with only one city council position up for election. Three candidates, Michael Boe, Jeffrey Koon and Rauchel McDaniel were vying for the position but after the election results were published Mc- Daniel and Boe are the two moving forward to the General McDaniel, Boe move forward in City Council position election Election this November. McDaniel received 43% of the vote with Boe receiving 33%. Koon came in with just under 22%. This year’s primary election saw a low voter turnout with just over 3,000 people in Lake Stevens voting. Under 23% of voters within Snohomish County voted in this primary election. pam stevens Rauchel McDaniel Michael Boe For the past 13 years, Lake Stevens has held their own National Night Out event in downtown Lake Stevens in an effort to bring the community together and promote safety. This annual event takes place on the first Tuesday in August and is always supported by lo- cal service clubs, businesses and individuals. This year’s event brought in over 1,200 people and offered 45 vendor booths. The event is always free and included sev- eral booths with free food and drinks. “Major contributors to this event included the City of Lake Stevens, Lake Stevens Police Department, Lake Stevens Fire Department, Foster Press, DJ Bob, Kiwanis and Hawkeyes for provioding free hot dogs, and many others for their food and interactive booths,” Julie Senechal frm the Lake Stevens Family Center said. National Night Out brings community together National Night Out welcomed families with kids of all ages. Service clubs including Lions, Kiwanis, American Legion, Rotary and others offered free food to attendees.
