- 7W7— Ernest T. Graig/t97 Ernest T. “Ernie” Grant of Puyallup, a former Shelton resi- dent and owner of Grant Lumber Company, died Sunday, Decem- ber 14, in Tacoma. He was 91. He was born March 15, 1906, in Stroud, England, to Thomas and Ada (Close) Grant. He lived in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, for five years before moving to Van» couver, British Columbia, in 1918. In 1943, be moved to Shelton and entered into partnership in the Grant Lumber Company, that was located at First Street and Turner Avenue, with his brother, who founded the company in 1939. Mr. Grant became sole proprie- tor in 1950. After 30 years in the retail lumber business, he sold the company and retired at age 67. He was a devoted husband and father who was also a gifted pian— ist and saxophonist, able to play classical compositions with artic- ulation or popular numbers by ear. He was an active member of the Shelton Kiwanis Club and First United Methodist Church of Shelton. He took pride in the community and was a model citir zen, becoming a naturalized American citizen in 1958. His family said he had a wonderful sense of humor and was an excel- lent role model. Mr. Grant and his wife, Mae (Ewart) Grant moved to Puyallup in 1991, She survives him at the family home there. He is also survived by daugh- ter Donna Green and her hus- band John of Sumner; son Gordon . Grant and his wife Charlotte of Tampa, Florida; grandchildren Teri Calavan of Texas, Thomas Grant of South Carolina, Jodi Pickering of Seattle, Michael Grant of California and Lori Packard of Seattle; and by three great»grandchildren and numer- ous nieces and nephews. A memorial service was held Wednesday, December 17, at Hill Funeral Home Chapel in Puyal~ lup. The Reverend Alfred S. Palmer officiated.
