What was in the brick building that is now Beverly's Fabrics?
That was a garage. My neighbors the second door up, th ey are
both gone now, I don't know whether he built that or not. But
he had an auto garage there for quite some time and then sold it
to the Hoffman family, but he is gone and she lives up the Carmel
Valley. And they lived on Pine Street.
Now you never attended the Pacific Grove Grammar School?
No, in Monterey, because my people lived over in Oak Grove you
see.
Did you know any of the music teachers?
Mrs. MacCauley was a music teacher in Monterey.
Did you know Colonel Chapman?
Yes, he goes to our church. The Episcopal church. Yes, I
knew him, her too. They live in Pebble Beach. They don't
come to church anymore, I think that it is too much of an
effort, they bov th are not well . I saw her the other
day in the bank.

Do you remember the Steinbeck family? No, I didn't know them.
I just wasn't interested I guess. I certainly think of lots
of things that I would like to ask my mother and father now.
And its too late.
Do you remember the Centrella Hotel? Did you ever 35-teat there?
Yes, I remember it but I don't believe that I was ever in it.
Thats the one they are remodeling. It looks real good from
the outside, but I haven't been in it. In never was in it.
What use was being made of the Chautauqua Hall? Can you remember
over the years what they used it for?
Well, I don't think anything. The school was only there for a
year while they were building the new school. I never went to
a Chautauqua meeting or whatever they had. I suppose I was too
young to go to them. I don't remember that my grandmother went
there either. Maybe she did and I didn't know about it.
The school that were building While you were going to Chautauqua
was that Robert Down?
I think so. I think it must have been because it is the only
school I've known. It was the only school for along time here
and then the High School was built and then the other schools
followed but that was the first school.
