Elmer Smith Elmer Smith, 77, died Wednesday, Dec. 28, at home in Shelton surrounded by his family. He was a resident of Shelton for 42 years. He was born Nov. 13, 1934, in Tacoma to Elmer and Lucy (Shafer) Smith 1. He attended Richmond High School in California. He married Jeanette Bing- ham at Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho on Nov. 13, 1966. He was a contract logger for Manke Lumber for many years. He also grew Christmas Elmer Smith /5/ 0/ 2 was a member of the Na-- tional Rifle Association and a group known as the Digging Outers, a clan of friends who liked to go out searching for and digging up old bottles. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling. He enjoyed garden- ing, growing a large garden every year and picking Wlld blackberries. He enjoyed col- lecting bottles, creeks and anything old. His family said he was a giving, compassion- ate man, who did many good things for people, with the only reward being that they in turn do something good for someone else. He is survived by his wife Jeanette Smith of Shelton; daughter Theresa Wright (Charlie) of Brady and Melissa Jaime (Everardo) of Olympia; sons Kenneth Smith (Elodie), Elmer Smith III, Gordy Smith Earl Smith (Karen) and Ronald Smith (Marlene) all of Shelton; sister Lillian Lawrence and Joan Dorame; brother John Paul Troy; ten grandchildren; 17 great- grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by parents and sisters Ger- aldine Thacker and Jackie Troy. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. McComb Funeral Home of Shelton is handling the ar— rangements.
