Richard Wayne <X Unterseher Richard Wayne Un- terseher, “Coach U,” 81, a Shelton resident for 37 years, passed away August 22nd at home under hospice care, from cancer. He was born September 14, 1935 in Sutton, Nebraska to Fedor and Edith (Hyatt) Unterseher. He served in the US. Army, active duty for about a year, followed by ' the Reserve for a total of about eight years, from approx. 1958 to 1966. He married J 0 Ellen (Jody) Unterseher (Thompson) on December 28, 1968 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He worked as a ‘ teacher and coach in '~ Greeley, CO, Montrose, . CO, Ozark Bible College, and Shelton, WA. He ‘ was also Associate Pass tor of Shelton Christian Church from 1980—1983, and‘Manager of Anytime .FitneSS in Shelton. In 1953 he gradu- ated from Sutton High School, in Sutton, Ne- braska. He earned his BA from the University of Northern Colorado in 1960, and his Master’s in 1961. He received . the Presidential Award on Fitness in 1962..»He was a member of the First Baptist Church. He loved to ride his bike these past 15 years. Rich had two passions, in his life. First and foremost was living a life that brought glory and honor to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. . This was reflected in his marriage, as a father, friend, teacher and coach. Secondly, was his commitment to teach- ing and coaching young people to recognize and strive toward reaching their potential. Coach U touched many lives. He is survived by his 1 wife, Jo Ellen “Jody” Unterseher of Shelton; son, Brad L. Unterseher (wife Lindsey) and their children Kolin and Pay- ton of Blacksburg, VA; brother, Gary (Dot) Un- terseher cf Solvang, CA; sister, Joanne SimmOns of Santa Barbara, CA; brother, Fred (Becky) Unterseher of Santa Fe, NM, and. numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service was held at First Bap- tist Church in Shelton . on Sunday, August 27, 2017.
