Re: Effie Harrington information from Pacific Grove Heritage Society
Her father, Edwin K. Alsip, was a prominent Sacramento real estate
developer and built the city's first rail line. He disappeared
mysteriously Jan. 12, 1898
traveling back to Sacramento from San Francisco. "Things became
strange when Alsip's wife received deeds to all of her husband's
property on the day he vanished." Copies available.
Effie J. Alsip married Thomas Eagle Harrington in a quiet ceremony
in Pacific Grove May 23, 1919. They resided at 282 Lighthouse Ave. Copy
available.
Have been unable to find her obituary.
2. Mary Brown Alsip - Effie's mother
Born May 2, 1848 in Illinois.
Her brother, Henry Clay Brown, died in San Francisco, Jan. 11, 1906
at the age of 66. His siblings are listed as Mrs. E.K. Alsip, Mrs. T.
Ragland and Mrs.M. Bracenbridge. Copy available.
Died Dec. 2, 1931 at her home, 162 10th St. in Pacific Grove. It
was noted in her obituatry that she had been a Pacific Grove residient
for 11 years.
She is buried in the Sacramento City Cemetery. It appears that her
mother-in-law's name was Mary, too. She died Jan. 9, 1894 and apparently
is buried at the
Sacramento City Cemetery as well. Copy available.
