residence has been chosen for in-
clusion in the Pacific Grove Vic-
torian Heritage Home Tour. The
home of Major General (Ret,)
and Mrs. Richard W. Stephens al
451 Ocean View Boulevard will
be open to the public on Sunday,
April 18, together with several '
other homes. which best portray
tile city's Victorian heritage.
the home was constructed
by Vi¥a Burrell Law of San Jose
as a summer home. The home
was built entirely of redwood anc!
has a lovely view of Lover's Point
and the Bay.
When Mrs. Law died she willed
the home to a nephew, who in
lurn sold it to Mrs. Anita Lee
Strachan of Fresno. During tile
last fc,v years the 11(mic Nuts rcul-
ed by Mrs. Strachan lo several
different families. General Steph-
ins purchased the borne last year
for his retiremeut home and has
completely renovated it.
Antique furniture and art ob-
jects in the home were inherited
from grandparents, and others
were collected *, the Stephens
front all over the world.
The oil painting which hangs
over the dining. room side-board
is o f 01 rs. Steplien'S grea t aunt. i t
was painted iii 1842 in New
Orleans.
The Victorian sofa iii the mas-
ter bedroom came from Saint
Louis, and the bedspreads on the
four poster beds were macie by
Mrs. Stephens maternal grand-
mother for her hope chest.
Rugs are from Persia: ancient
trunzes, jade, ivory and porcelain
.vet·e brought from the far cast.
