RE: Steiner House in Pacific Grove
Dear Mr. Steiner,
Your letter to the Pacific Grove Chamber of Commerce, dated
March 21, 1994, was forwarded to me. I apologize for the
delay in responding.
Our Society is responsible for placing the plaques on the
houses in Pacific Grove. I personally did the research on
the Steiner house, and the plague is misspelled because the
County Recorder's records are misspelled ... which is not too
unusual for that time.
Thank you for bringing the misspelling to our attention. We
will correct it on a future plague. Also thank you for the
notes on Adam Steiner.
If you have an early photo of the
house and / or a photo of Adam Steiner that you could donate
a copy thereof to the Heritage Society, I would like to do a
short story on Mr. Steiner in our newsletter called the
"Board and Batten".
Again, thank you for your letter.
Sincerely,
Adam Weiland

Newspapers only print Public Information
First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free
exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the
people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
Newspapers produce and deliver news and information which they feel is important -- most often
from public information such as arrest reports, traffic infractions, accidents, indictments,
lawsuits, jury verdicts, property records, legal notices, and many other sources of information
which is freely available to anyone at any time. Newspaper publishers do not have access to any

The use of your name in an article does not mean you own it. Newspapers deliver news on all sorts
of public matters which, in addition to information found in the public registers, may include
statements you make to a reporter or official, your photograph, background and other information
provided by you or others, rebuttals, opinions, and other information such as court-ordered
legal notices, and historical and statistical data.
