Gene E. Sawyer
Gene E. Sawyer, who had lived
in Shelton most of his life, died
suddenly from a heart attack
in Yuma, Arizona, on Tuesday,
March 6. He was 76.
Born on June 1, 1930 in Curtis,
Nebraska, to David and Bessie
(Boyd) Sawyer, he attended Shel»
ton schools, graduating from Irene
S. Reed High School in 1949.
He served in the Army follow—
\ ing high school.
He married Shirley A Bender
in Shelton on June 20, 1953,
Mr. Sawyer owned and operat-
. ed a part-time TV repair shop and
also worked in the Central Main-
tenance Shop for Simpson Timber
Company for 35 years. After work»
ing at Simpson, he was an electri-
cal superintendent for the state
of Washington until he retired in
January 2000.
He and his wife enjoyed trav-
eling and spending a few months
in Arizona in the winter, but Mr.
Sawyer couldn‘t stay long because
he needed to come home and see
his grandchildren, his family said.
He enjoyed fishing and work-
ing in his yard and was a member
of the Veterans of Foreign Wars,
International Brotherhood of Elec-
trical Workers Union Local '76 and
Shelton First Baptist Church.
Surviving are wife Shirley A.
Sawyer of Olympia; sons Craig
El Sawyer of Kirkland and Jeff B.
Sawyer and wife Rosie of Olympia;
daughter Sherri Li Webster and
husband Joe of Edmonds; grand-
children Kaitlyn, Brynn and ND-
lan Webster of Edmonds and Jack
Sawyer of Olympia; and cousins
Rollin and Robert Aitken of Shel»
ton.
A funeral service will be held
at 1:30 pm. on Thursday, March
15, at the‘ First Baptist Church in
Shelton. Burial will be at 11 am.
on March 15 at Shelton Memorial
Park.

ship Fund, in care of Our Commu-
nity Credit Union, 2948 Olympic
