It first appears on the 1926 Sanborn Map. It occupies lots 15 & 17. Lots 16 and 19 are combined into a single parcel but appear to have a separate residential unit that was built later. The house appears to be partially occupied while the remaining section is open to the weather and in very poor condition. It is on the Pacific Grove Historic Resources Inventory. It's principal qualification for inclusion in the HRI is that Ed Ricketts owned and occupied it beginning in 1928 thru the 1930s along with his wife Nancy and children Ed Ricketts Jr., Cornelia and Nancy Jane. Ed Ricketts was a marine biologist and partner in Pacific Biological Laboratories, was a friend of John Steinbeck and the basis for Steinbeck's character "Doc" in the Cannery Row novels.
