Retreat Tract Your letter of inquiry, dated November 14, 2008, regarding a plague request for 150 178 Street has been researched by the Pacific Grove Heritage Society Research Team and approved by the full Board. Tax records indicate that the structure was first assessed in 1926, but was originally built in 1923. An article in the Daily Monterey Herald, dated May12, 1923, indicated that the home was built by Mr. and Mrs. Bieghle. Whether or not Mr. and Mrs. Bieghle lived in the house is unclear, but we do know that they owned the Centrella Hotel directly across the street from this residence. The article is enclosed for your records. There is also a copy of the 1926 Sanborn Map indicating the existence of the structure. Plaques are given out biannually at the Heritage House Awards and during the Historic Home Tour in October. You will probably be receiving your plague in 2010. Thank you again for your interest.
