6. 130 Fountain Avenue Frank House - Vernacular (18 ) 11 A.M.-5 P.M.
Although a hint of Eastlake mode has influenced this structure the
true character of the building derives from its form, rather than
from stylistic detail. Richard and Linda Frank say of their home:
"Over the years we have always enjoyed visiting Victorian homes; I
however, we almost did not become Victorian home owners when we first
looked at 130 Fountain Avenue! Painted woodwork, cracked ceilings,
holes in the walls, linoleum floors, broken windows, plumbing problems,
etc...all surrounded by an overgrown jungle for a garden indicated
that a great deal of work would be in store for the new owners of this
home. On the plus side, the charming entryway, gabled bedrooms, an-
tique fireplaces, high ceilings and the overall feeling of charm and
grace of the house prompted us to plunge in...and we did, and we have
not been sorry for our choice. Words can not adequately express the
joy of living in one of these comfortable old family homes. We heart-
ily encourage others who have the opportunity to restore such a home
to do so in lieu of replacing it with a modern structure and like a
fine piece of antique furniture or a rare piece of art, these homes
and the heritage they symbolize can never be replaced once destroyed."
