Clyde Rau Jr.
Clyde Gerald “Bud” Ran
Jr. died at home in Shelton
on Thursday, February 12,
after a long battle with can-
cer. He was 70.
Mr. Rau was born on
March ’7, 1938 in Two RivV
ers, Wisconsin, to Irene
(Dvorak) and Clyde Rau Sr.
He served in the US.
Navy from 1956 to 1958,
Mr. Rau attended New York
State Ranger School in Syr—
acuse, New York, graduat-
ing in 1960.
He married Sonja (Kerr)
Rau on September 5, 1961
in Redmond, Oregon.
Mr. Rau worked for the
United States Department
of Agriculture Forest Ser-
vice on a variety of
national forests, re-
tiring in 1993,
While with the
forest service, he
invented what he
called the “hoe dad,”
which was a tool
used to plant tree
seedlings by the
forest service and
other tree planters
to this day.
He was an active member
of the American Chestnut
Foundation. He was a mas-
ter ship modeler, and sew
era] of his ship models are
on display in museums. He
loved God and was a memr
ber of the Church of Living
Clyde Ran
Water in Olympia and Con-
gregation Lion of Judah in
Tumwater.
Mr. Rau was preceded in
death by his parents and
Wife Sonja in 2002.
He is survived
by sons Lieutenant
Colonel Matthew
Rau of Virginia,
Andrew Rau of
Oregon, Jonathon
Rau of Washington
and Nathan Rau
of Washington;
daughters Beth
Blue of Washing-
ton, Anjanette Rau
of Washington, Jennifer
Sousley of Washington; twin
sister Ann Meissner of Wis-
consin; grandchildren Joel,
LaKeshia, Lukas, Tricia,
Christopher, Tia, Timothy,
Kylie, Madison, Whitney
and Tanner; and great
grandchildren Aaliyah
and Noah as well as many
other family members and
friends.
A memorial service was
held on Tuesday, February
17, at Hope Chapel in Shel-
ton.
Burial is at Shelton Me-
morial Park.
Arrangements are by
McComb Funeral Home in
Shelton.
